Race Report - Round 5
A small but enthusiastic field of drivers fronted up for round 5 of the Tasman series this week…with a number of others deciding that they preferred marshaling to driving.
It’s always good to see these classic 1.5 litre cars running around on their traditional home track, albeit a track which had undergone some disaster in recent times with many spectators having fallen victim to some horrible fate. Hopefully they will all recover in time for the next round in a months time…….
To the racing then, it was regular class critic Rob Golley once again showing a clean pair of heals to all & sundry with his pace & nothing up his 3rd win in a row. Robs total of 77 laps put him 1 lap clear on top. Early good pace was also shown by DB, and this, combined with his consistent efforts, put him in good stead for a 76 lap total & 2nd place overall. For 3rd this week a close battle was run between myself & Rhys with both of us finishing on 75 laps, however I was lucky enough to grab the position on Track for the final podium. Rhys having to settle for a good 4th. Just 1 lap back in 5th on 74 laps, was Dave Schofield, which in turn was 2 laps clear of a couple of drivers sharing 72 laps for the night. In 6th however, in a fantastic result, Tom saw off Blair for the position on track & notched up his best result for many a round. This of course meant Blair finished in 7th, one lap ahead of Ben in 8th on 71 laps.
Another close race for 9th & 10th was fought out between Luke & Dave Gray on 70 laps, but Luke grabbed this advantage for 9th with Dave rounding out the top 10.
The unlucky driver for the round was Phil, who had crown gear issues a couple of times during his heats & this put paid to his round completely. Which was very unfortunate coming off a similar bad round last week, and has had a drastic effect on his overall series points.
In the series overall, a missed round from early leader JB, and the 3rd win from Rob has seen these 2 now tied for the lead……which doesn’t bode well for JB given his holiday jaunt will no doubt have him missing the final 2 rounds. DB has stormed into 3rd currently, and has every chance of grabbing 2nd the way things are panning out.
