Race 1 Report
Historic Nascars
The big Thundering Nascars made a return to racing at Mornington.
Dave decided to fun these first up so they did not have too much grip, this certainly did not help Adrian as he was trying to reduce grip on his car as every lane change.
Not sure if Robs car also had too much grip as during one bracket the 427 proved too much for the diff and it said enough and slowly refused to provide forward motion, so he did a Peter Brock and changed cars, even with this problem he still managed to finish second on the road at the end.
This drama proved helpful for Bruce in the High winged Superbird as it elevated him to second and John to Third
Dave Bantoft finished 4th in his slow Carrera Charger.
It was interesting to see the two Carrera cars in the top half of the field.
In the mean time I managed to stay out of trouble in the only Chev in the field and finished in front, but I think once Robs fixes his diff he will be right up there as his time in the slow car were very good.
Rhys finished just behind D,B, with Callan and Adrian not far behind.
Scott, Schoee, Ugly and Thomas rounding out the field.
Thomas ran a Scalex Charger under special dispensation!

Race 2 Report
The 2nd round of the Historic panel bashers (Nascars) was held at JBs Stratton valley this week, and it certainly was a case of art (well, hobby) mirroring reality.
The top 2 drivers this week went at it hammer & tong with the Nascar of Rob Golley proving harder to pass than a Volvo driver on a Sunday drive. The extra length of these cars certainly took up plenty of space on the corners & despite having the entire track all to themselves for most of their bracket, Phil & Rob used up all of the track in a private war that was very entertaining for the rest of us…….except for the marshals dealing with the carnage.
When the dust had all settled though, it was Phil Kalbfell who took out the win this week with 74 laps, just 1 lap ahead of Rob Golley on 73. This despite Phils Chev looking to be more at home driving Movie stars around the Hollywood hills than racing around a track!. Robs cause also wasn’t helped much by shooting himself in the foot a couple of times with no assistance from anyone else.
During all of this, John Batich flew under the radar very successfully and finished a very close 3rd on the same lap count as Rob (73), but with none of the crowd entertainment. His clever driving saw him break clear of a very tight pack of drivers vying for the next 3 spots, all of whom finished on 71 laps for the night. In a quite lucky 4th was Callan, just a whisker ahead of myself (5th) by less than half a straight, with Dave Bantoft, also on the same lap, back in 6th. Just 1 lap back in 7th was Rhys Filbee on 70, and Bruce Thomas another lap back in 8th on 69 laps in the high winged Superbird. Dave Gray slotted into the top 10 in 9th on 59 laps, 2 laps clear of Thomas Males(10th) in the Smokey Yunick (?) Nascar. Adrian Gray had an increasingly disastrous run from lane 1 onwards with the end result of a 32 lap total & 11th spot for the night…..not helped at all by a 0 total in lane 3.

Race 3 Report
It took until Round 3, but finally Rob Golley fulfilled the promise that he has shown in the first two rounds & took out a comprehensive win in this weeks Historic NASCAR race. Amazingly enough the race reporter can’t even remember Rob indulging in his (usually) favourite pastime of punting other drivers off the track & swapping body panel paint! His focus on driving fast & consistently seems to have paid off this week and his total of 98 laps saw him well clear in a well-deserved 1st place. Battling on stoically for 2nd place was Phil Kalbfell, who overcame a heat or two down on power (pinion) to just grab 2nd in a very tight battle with the thundering (very noisy!) Fairlane of Adrian Gray (3rd) both racking up 95 laps for the night. Just 1 lap back & on his own in 4th spot was the well performed Callan Thomas on 94 laps, putting him 1 lap clear of a very close battle for 5th & 6th between the writers Lemon Meringue Pie coloured Galaxie & Dave Bantofts well-presented Plymouth.
The epic struggle between these two drivers developed from the very first couple of heats on the night and wasn’t resolved until the very last. Early on the seriousness was there for all to see with Dave Schofield taking the brunt of Dave Bantofts abuse while marshalling. Poor Schoee hadn’t even had time to touch DBs car when he was immediately called a b@stard, leading to much tut-tutting around the table at this form of Marshall mistreatment. Anyway, by the time the final heat of the night was due to start, DB had a comfortable lap or two lead over myself and had only to stay on to lock up 5th spot easily. This was until the race started…..and DB didn’t. His lap and a bit lead was erased in seconds until he worked out that his controller was not fully plugged in. The reason for this drastic oversight remained a mystery for the rest of the night, but noticeably, Rhys was seen loitering in the near vicinity & certainly had ample time & opportunity to perform an act of sabotage. Did he have the motive though? We may never know. Anyway, the end result of all of this palaver meant that I was able to scrape by into 5th on 93 laps, with DB dropping back to 6th on the same lap total. Seriously though Dave, you had the moral win over me this round…..but I’ll take the points 😊.
If Rhys was the culprit in sabotaging DBs heat, it didn’t really help him. His 92-lap total was 1 lap further back, but was leapfrogged into 7th by Bruce Thomas (also 92 laps) in another close battle for placings. Rhys eventually slotted into 8th. Dennis Murray, in a welcome return to racing, grabbed 9th spot in the Charger of Phil’s with 86 laps, with Dave Gray rounding out the top 10 on 84. Schooee, obviously still upset over Dave Banoft’s insult while marshalling, couldn’t bring his best form to the track this week & finished the night in 11th on 81 laps, 3 laps clear of Scott Wayman in another Phil Kalbfell rent-a-car that got better as the heats went on. He finished 12th on 78 laps just 1 lap ahead of 13th placegetter, Thomas Males.
