Race Report
This week we ran a Tribute to 100 years of Le Mans as a fun night.
Two class’s were decided on, Group C Slot Its and 1964 to 1971 Le Mans cars.
Only a small group racers were in attendance.
These were raced over two races with no stipulation other than each car must do 4 brackets.
Most decided to run the Slot Its in the first race ,Bruce and Callan ran their earlier 1964 to 71 cars in this. race.
Rob Golley made a good return to racing after 2 months away ,He managed to pressure me for most of the race finishing in second place. Adrian Gray rounded out the podium.
The Thomas’s followed with Callan ahead of Bruce.John Batich finished 6th ahead of Dave Bantoft who could not seem to come to grip with the high grip of the rented Toyota.
Rhys and Dave Gray rounded out the last two places.
Race 2 saw Bruce and Callan run there Slot It Group c cars but probably should have put the bodies on their SRC cars as there lap scores were not as good as Race 1.
Dave Bantoft John Batich, Rob Golley and myself, seemed to have the edge over the rest of the field as far as speed. But that came to an abrupt end. The wheels fell of Robs attack on lane 2 when the rear wheel fell off.
I did not fare much better with my haste to finished Chaparral 2D to run failed to check the body mount holes and the body came off the car on Lane 4.
Adrian seemed to have grip problems all night having too much grip to be consistent, while putting in some good times.
At the end it was Dave Bantoft from John Batich , Callan with the Gp c car in third place followed by Adrian then Bruce in his Gp C car. Rhys finished in 6th. Then the three guys with mechanical issues Rob ( wheel off ) Phil ( body off) Dave Gray ( car stopped).
Once the results were totaled for both races John Batich led from Adrian and Dave Bantoft rounding out the podium.
Callan missed the podium by a few metres with Rob close behind in 5th. I finished in 6th ahead of Bruce.
Rhys and Dave Gray rounded out the results.
